Mark Bixby Memorial Dedication: Friday August 10th at 4pm Belmont Pool Plaza
On Friday August 10th at 4pm at the Belmont Pool Plaza in Long Beach, Bikeable Communities along with the Bixby Family will host the dedication for a stainless steel “Wave” monument created by local metal artist Patrick Vogel in remembrance of our friend Mark Bixby. The monument, created in Mark’s memory, represents his love of the ocean and depicts his life, just before his death, as a “wave” at its crest, powerful and ready to break.
Before he passed, Mark was instrumental in kick starting Bikeable Communities, where he served as President of the Board of Directors. Among other initiatives such as the Gerald Desmond Bridge bike path, Mark is largely responsible for the sculpture now hanging at City Hall with the proclamation that Long Beach “is the most bicycle friendly city in the US” – a vision of Mark’s that we are striving to complete.
Many have helped make the Mark Bixby Memorial Sculpture a reality with generous time and donations, and Bikeable Communities along the Bixby family thank all of you.
We hope to see you at the dedication this coming Friday!
