Pacific Avenue Bike Lane: Has Your Voice Been Heard?
The City of Long Beach is in the stage of designing the forthcoming Pacific Avenue bike lanes that will run from bustling downtown through the quaint Bixby Knolls neighborhood. The cornerstone of the “Bicycle System Gap Closures and Improved Los Angeles River Bike Path Access,” Pacific Avenue will be a fantastic addition to our city’s expanding network of bike routes.
Bikeable Communities supports the Pacific Avenue improvement for the following reasons:
* The bike lane will provide safer streets for children and others who travel by bike. Safer streets equal safer, healthier communities.
* The improvement will connect the Bixby Knolls shopping area, Wrigley Village business district as well as downtown’s many unique shops and restaurants – helping local businesses in each area.
* The infrastructure project is worth over $1 million and is largely paid for by federal grants and not local tax dollars.
Let’s continue to push for safer streets in Long Beach by supporting efforts to expand bike routes, including the Pacific Avenue plan. We urge you to make your voice heard by contacting your councilperson’s office, letting them know you support the Pacific Avenue bike lane.
