El Dorado Race Series Launches Summer Schedule – Presented By Bikeable Communities

Long Beach, CA – July 11, 2012 – Keeping with a long standing tradition of attracting some of the nation’s finest bike racing talent, the El Dorado Park Race Series continues its summer schedule of weekly ‘Crit Style’ training races on a 1.75 mile closed course loop circuit. Located in Long Beach, El Dorado Park is one of Southern California’s largest regional parks offering cycling enthusiasts a venue that is safe from vehicle traffic while providing amenities and parking.

The El Dorado Park Race Series is a tradition in Long Beach that was started 29 years ago by a group of cycling enthusiasts and racers who got together for an hour of hard training. The weekly event originally attracted Novice racers to Olympic and Professional cyclists every Tuesday Night during the summer months. Today that tradition continues featuring Novice, National and Olympic Champions in all age and racing categories where riders are challenged to improve their fitness, hone their skills, take a turn at the front of the peloton, keep the pace high and make everyone work a little bit harder each and every lap.

1984 Gold Medal Olympian Steve Hegg raced at El Dorado prior to his Olympic success in Los Angeles and continues to do so today. “This race series offers one of the nation’s finest training venues for racers of all ages and abilities,” said Hegg.

Weekly Racing at El Dorado takes place on Tuesday Nights at 6:15pm with registration open at 5:15pm. Racing entry fee is $12.00. Racers are divided into 3 peloton groups (1/2/3’s, Masters & 4/5’s) based on experience & age. Weekly racing continues through September 4th and prizes are awarded weekly along with an overall Points Award to GC Leaders of each peloton group at the conclusion of the series. SPY Optics Performance Eyewear is a sponsor of the El Dorado Race Series providing performance eyewear as prizes.

About Spy Optics

SPY came into being in the early-to-mid-‘90s as the brainchild of a group of over-achieving athletes and design freaks seeking new perspective through the lens of technical eyewear. This unique crew was as motivated toward creativity and freedom as they were with pushing design conventions and redefining technology, and their efforts were eagerly embraced by the burgeoning world of action, motor and multi-sports. SPY’s founders surfed, snowboarded and skied, and they raced bikes, motorcycles and cars, of course. SPY’s patented anti-fogging frame technology was born of this passion for riding. Oleophobic and hydrophobic lens coatings were pioneered out of this same passion, where, with some California style added in, stylistic form quickly followed unparalleled function. That was almost twenty years ago and those elements are here to stay.

Today, SPY continues uniquely as a collaboration of extraordinary athletes, designers and creative people connected by a common obsession with action sports, technology, style, music, the world around us and the facilitation of world-class performance and unbridled fun. We make incredible products that go on your face, allowing you to see clearer, look cooler, perform better and be more comfortable while doing the things that make you feel most alive. We are committed to making the highest quality, most functional, best-looking eyewear on earth and supporting like-minded people and the pastimes that inform who we are and what we do.
