Ped and Bike Facilities Associated with I-710 Corridor Project
This is a reminder that there will be a presentation and discussion on Wednesday at 6:30 pm in the City Hall Council Chambers (1st floor) regarding the Pedestrian and Bicycle Facilities that are proposed for the PCH, Anaheim, Willow and Wardlow over crossings associated with the I-710 Corridor Project.
Earlier this summer the draft Environment Impact Statement (EIR) was released in association with the proposed I-710 Corridor that is designed to improve air quality / public health, improve mobility, congestion and safety (this is where biking and walking come in) and assess alternative green goods movement technology.
A major part of this proposed project will be to reconfigure and rebuild the bridges that cross the LA River and the 710 freeway. As part of this reconfiguration there is an opportunity to include state of the art bike and ped facilities. This may include facilities on the bridges themselves, or could included separate Class 1 facilities.
Two of their goals are directly related to pedestrian and bicycle needs:
1-Complete Streets that incorporate the needs of all users
2-Interconnected and safe bicycle and pedestrian-friendly streets, sidewalks, paths and trails.
The plan also addresses what would happen to parks such as Chavez and Drake Park. Additionally there is an opportunity for park improvement, add new areas to the park and develop an landscaping and bicycle path plan for the area).
Your input to this process is critical. CalTrans needs to hear from the community about priorities. Are bicycling and pedestrian facilities important to our community? Is it important to provide safe connections between east and west Long Beach?
The meeting will give you an opportunity to find about the current plans as well as to provide your input.
