Good News & Sad News

Vice Mayor Suja Lowenthal photographed recently by Allan Crawford for the cover of the new Women on Bikes SoCal website

We are very proud to announce that our new initiative Women on Bikes SoCal has launched in its beta version! We hope you’ll go take a nice long look. So what does “beta” version mean? It’s up and growing but stay tuned, we have big plans for what it can bloom into. The concept is a new twist on bicycle advocacy because Women on Bikes SoCal marries traditional bicycle advocacy with a progressive communications model. The website is a platform for 360 degree digital story telling to best showcase and support the dynamic female bicycle culture that’s blooming around us in Southern California. Would you like to share your own bike love story with us? We’d love to know about it. Please send us an email at .

At the heart of the matter Women on Bikes SoCal is about “celebrating the beauty and benefits of bicycling for women and girls.” Our goal is to help double the number of women and girls actively riding bikes in Southern California by 2016. It’s a tall order, we know, but we think it’s completely doable – especially with your help!

On a sad note this has been a tragic week in Long Beach for two bicyclists who were very seriously injured. Both the Press Telegram and Biking in L.A. have reported on both incidents, one appears to possibly have been intentional.
